Early September 2020 sees the Ritz-Carlton yacht embark on a week-long cruise exploring the land of fire and ice - Iceland. The circumnavigation of the island commences at the capital and main port of Reykjavik, heading in an anti-clockwise direction towards the Arctic Circle and the town of Akureyri in the north of Iceland. As the yacht sails past the eastern part of the island, it will be easy to spot the many natural harbours, fishing villages and small seaside communities that border the coast.

The north of Iceland is truly a land of contrasts, the long valleys and peninsulas are interspersed with mountains, lava fields and small hills carved out by rivers.

Akureyri, the second largest urban area and located within Iceland's longest fjord, the mild-weathered Eyjafjörður, is rich in culture and history and has a charming downtown full of late nineteenth century wooden houses. The town has many museums, galleries and exhibitions that offer insight into the diversity of the culture and the nation as a whole.

After an overnight stop, the yacht heads westward to Stykkisholmur This small town of well-preserved, 150-year-old wooden warehouses, shops and homes clustered around a deep natural harbour is the jumping off point for touring and hiking the picturesque peninsula of Snæfellsnes. The town seems frozen in time, as it is home to few people and has no traffic or pollution.

The following day and the yacht continues southward, skirting Reykjavik and finally arriving at Heimaey Island, the penultimate day before disembarkation.

The largest of the Westman Islands, Heimaey hosts the volcano Eldfell which brought the islands to international attention when it erupted in 1973, almost destroying the town and forcing thousands of inhabitants to flee to the mainland.

This Icelandic discovery tour finishes the following day with disembarkation in Reykjavik.
